A vet can perform a careful physical examination and, if needed, use imaging or laboratory tests to detect hidden problems and decide on appropriate treatment. Early detection helps prevent complications and supports a quicker, safer recovery.

Rinsing with water doesn’t address potential injuries, and simply observing for a day without evaluation might miss serious issues that could worsen. Trying to “test” the dog’s fitness by exercising can push underlying injuries and cause more harm. If anything seems off or if the event was significant, a vet check is the best next step.
